It’s time to give you an update about Hope House of Pickaway County the new homeless shelter for men and families. The start-up date is still in flux mainly because we need to fill out the volunteer calendar. I want to share with you the volunteer positions and hours.
We need Evening Volunteers for two different shifts: 5:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. any day of the week. Volunteers work as part of a team to help set up the shelter, engage with guests, complete intake paperwork for new guests, pass out hygiene supplies, enforce program rules and help ensure the emotional and physical safety of the space. Volunteers are supported each night by the Volunteer Coordinator.
Dinner Meal Teams: 6:30 pm. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers organize a few people to prepare dinner, serve dinner and clean up the kitchen. Volunteers are encouraged to bring food with them which they are interested in cooking or bring a prepared meal or serve a donated meal. We ask that at least one person from the team has attended the volunteer orientation and can act as a contact person for the group. This is a great way to bring along friends, co-workers and family to volunteer alongside you! Dinner Meal Teams are supported by the Volunteer Coordination.
Morning Breakfast Crew 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Volunteers work as a team of breakfast crew volunteers to help prepare a simple hot breakfast, serve food to guest, and clean up the kitchen. Volunteers are encouraged to bring food with them they are interested in cooking or bring a prepared meal or serve a donated meal. They also will hand out a sack lunch to all residents. (Sack lunches will be prepared by night staff). Morning volunteers will engage guest, hand out hygiene supplies, help clean up shelter, enforce program rules and help ensure the emotional and physical safety of the space. Guests are required to leave shelter by 8:30 a.m. The 30 minutes after guest leave, volunteers help restock hygiene supplies, prepare bedding for the next night, start any remaining shelter laundry and clean up the shelter space. Morning volunteer are supported by the Volunteer Coordinator and are available for support in an on-call capacity.
All volunteers are required to attend the Volunteer Orientation training to better equip you to serve as a volunteer. If you are interested in serving in one of these capacities you will have to fill out a Volunteer Application form. You can get this form from me or by contacting PICCA at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or by stopping by the PICCA office at 469 East Ohio Street, Circleville Ohio 43113.
These are great ways for you to become involved in this very important outreach to help the homeless population in our county. If you have any questions or need more information, please be in contact with me.
